Sebelas Maret University Car Free Day as Contribution to Improve Air Quality
Sebelas Maret University has implemented one of
its policies, which is to hold a car-free day in the campus area on Friday,
September 7, 2022, where everyone is not allowed to bring any gas-powered
vehicles into the campus environment.
The campus claimed they implement this policy
every Friday at the beginning of the month. They stated that the reason for
implementing this program was to reduce air pollution and motivate everyone to
live healthy lives, one of which was by exercising by walking. Not only
students and lecturers, the public around the Sebelas Maret University
environment is enthusiastic about participating in this program.
Although vehicles are prohibited from entering the
campus area on car-free days, Sebelas Maret University has provided free public
transportation facilities, namely electric shuttles, for easy road access to
all campus areas quickly and easily. The students admitted that with this
facility, they did not find it difficult to explore the campus area even though
there were no vehicles.
