Faculty of Humanities UNS is Holding a Seminar about How to Face Extremism
The faculty of Humanities UNS is holding a
seminar on Wednesday, 2nd November 2022, at Seminar Room Faculty of
Humanities UNS in the 3rd Building. The seminar is titled “Home,
Land, Security Deradicalization and the Journey Back from Extremism” and this
seminar explains further about extremism, how it happened, and how we deal with
extremism. The guest star of this seminar is Carla Power, the author of the book
“If Ocean Were Ink” and a finalist for the Pulitzer
Prize and the National Book Award.
In the seminar, Carla Power tells a story which
motivates her to write her book. She starts with her journey in Iran,
interviewing extremists back then, and how she discovers an interesting way to
deal with the extremists and even redeem them. Many students are enthusiastic about
this seminar because they found it interesting and intriguing.
At the end of the seminar, Carla Power conveys
her message to the students that extremism begins from loneliness and then
accepting misguided ideology or information from others without further
analysis and critical thinking. Carla Power wanted students to learn and
understand other’s perspectives but also need to be critical about it.
